In 2019 I spent a lot of time watching Andy Griffith because it’s one of the funniest (and cleanest) shows around. My favorite episode of all by far is “Aunt Bee the Warden.”
Most of you know how the episode goes, but because there is no room at the jail, the town drunk Otis is instead sent to Aunt Bee’s house. He expects an easy time, but is forced to do tons of work, which leads to his despartely trying to escape!
That funny program actually symbolizes a powerful truth…….
Many of the world’s problems come from a lack of structure.
By structure, I mean a culture that challenges individuals to be better
- It has strict rules
- Hard work (responsibility)
- and consequences when the rules aren’t followed
Culture curing the world’s problems goes completely against the world’s philosophy that says “fewer rules bring greater enjoyment.” And in the short term, that’s probably true since you enjoy freedom more. But the lack of rules, hard work, and consequences create lazy and immature people (like Otis)!
True love doesn’t remove all hindrances…..it challenges the loved one to develop discipline, and honor the Lord with their lives.
