Around 8:00 most nights I will crash on the couch or sit in a chair, and watch something on a streaming service 1. There’s nothing wrong in my opinion with watching things online. You do however have to be very selective with what you watch online.
Most people know not to watch things that bring great dishonour to the Lord like sex scenes, or constant profanity. However much of what you find online would include what I like to call “looking away moments.”
A looking away moment can include things like:
- Violence
- Physical intimacy (kissing, etc)
- Lack of proper clothing on women or men
- And an attack on the Biblical worldview
Think about this enough, and you realise most things both on streaming, or tv have way too many look away moments
At this point everyone has a personal decision to make before the Lord
What are you going to do about it?
For me, it came down to the point of watching only things that wouldn’t involve looking away moments. In other words, those shows are very old!
Here are a few I’ve been watching lately
- Little House on the Prairie
- The Waltons
- Andy Griffith
- And the Beverly Hillbillies
I don’t write this to make myself look better than anyone else, instead I write it to make a point.
you don’t have to watch programming that has “look away moments “
To put it simply, we often consume the entertainment that the world offers to us right away without a second thought. If everyone else is watching it, then we should be too! But the same person who is careful about the food they put in their body should be careful about what enters their mind right?
I am not saying that everyone should only watch shows from the 1960’s or 1970’s. But stop for a moment and think about how many times there is something on a program that dishonours God.
You may be surprised.
